Halevy, Jacques Francois Fromental

(1799-1862)
   French composer, son of Elie Halevy. He was born in Paris, and taught at the Paris Conservatoire from 1816, becoming professor of counterpoint and fugue in 1833, and professor of composition in 1840. He composed operas, cantatas and ballets. His opera La Juive is the story of a Renaissance prince in love with a Jewess.
